Outdoor 4 ft. Rumford fireplace. Materials used: antique fire brick, repurposed curbstone, barnstone and brick. A variety of field stone and stone unearthed from the customer’s property during construction along with various stone and coral they had collected on vacations were also used.
This week’s project was an eco-friendly fireplace. We used all re-purposed materials: the hearth is made from barnstone steps; the firebox surround and mantel were fabricated from barn foundation stone and sidewalk stone; the stone veneer is made from hand gathered field stone.
We converted an 8″ x 12″ chimney chase set up for woodburning unit in an unfinished basement to a 2′ x 2′ Rumford fireplace. Materials used: antique fire brick, repurposed barn stone, curb stone and an assortment of random rocks. The doors are made of flag stone with old barn hinges.
